When we set about designing our latest collection, “Irish You Were Here”, we wanted to conjure fond childhood memories, capturing the soul of summer time in the Emerald Isle.
A sail boat named “Mo Stoirín” sparks nostalgia for bright evenings spent at Bunbeg Harbour in Gaoth Dobhair, County Donegal - an Irish speaking region, nestled between the mountains and the Atlantic Ocean. “Mo Stoirín” is an Irish term of endearment that translates as “my little darling”.
Those who enjoyed summer holidays in County Kerry will remember days spent looking out to sea, searching for a glimpse of Fungie the Dolphin. Fungie had a playful, mischievous nature and engaged with locals and tourists for over thirty years, creating unforgettable memories. We wanted to honour those memories, through this collection.
Our new collection would be incomplete without reference to County Wexford, where Fred loves to staycation with his family. We chose to include a bucket and spade, seaside crab and some of our favourite retro ice lollies in the pattern to represent warm days enjoyed on the soft sand of Curracloe Beach.
The final element of our love letter to Ireland is an illustration of Poolbeg Lighthouse in County Dublin. This element reminds us of our move from the countryside to the city, which became the home of Fred & Ginger. It represents adventures past and present, as we look forward to strolls on Sandymount Strand for many summers to come.
